Overview
Grand Malabar Indian Cuisine brings authentic Malabar cooking — the food of North Kerala — to Morrisville, North Carolina, in the heart of the Research Triangle. Under the tagline “A Taste of Kerala’s Rich Culinary Tradition”, the restaurant serves dine-in guests alongside a tiffin service, online ordering, and delivery. Grand Malabar approached Boxes and Tales to grow its social reach and build a brand presence worthy of its kitchen — and the engagement has since grown into a full-stack partnership spanning strategy, content, campaigns, web, and AI tooling.
We began with strategy: who is this food for, and how do we reach them? The answer became a 4-layer target-audience model — the Kerala diaspora at the core, expanding outward to other Indian communities, the broader South Asian community, and American food explorers curious about regional Indian cuisine.
On that foundation we built a content system:

The clearest proof of the system is the account itself. When we took over in April 2026, @grandmalabarcuisine stood at 195 followers with little consistent reach. Since then, a steady weekly cadence of creative Reels, Stories, and photography has been compounding — growing the audience, multiplying Reel plays, and turning profile visits into orders and table bookings.

Production at Boxes and Tales is filmmaking first. Every month is built around 3 dedicated shoot days that deliver approximately 12 Reels, 8–10 Stories, and 15–20 professional photos — shot with cinema-style lighting, macro food photography, and videography that makes Malabar cooking look the way it tastes.
What sets the work apart is the creative treatment. Instead of pointing a camera at plates, we write and direct concept-driven Reels and advertisements that connect with the restaurant’s audience:
If the Reels are the brand’s voice, the photography is its face. Grand Malabar’s stills have a signature look we developed for the brand: dishes plated on black slate and dark boards, lit like portraits — a single dramatic key light, deep shadows left intact, steam and gloss doing the talking. Against the dark frame, a crisp chicken fry glows; a clay-pot curry becomes color and texture instead of just a plate on a table.
Every shoot day works the food at three distances:

One shoot, many surfaces: the same frames carry the Instagram grid, the dish explainers, the printed menu, and the website headers — a consistent visual identity everywhere a guest meets the brand.
Boxes and Tales designed and built the restaurant’s website at grandmalabarindian.com — menu, online ordering links, hours, location, and the brand storytelling that carries the Malabar identity beyond social media. The site is live and serving customers today.
The newest chapter of the partnership is an AI-based front desk assistant, currently in development. The assistant is being built to handle the questions guests actually ask — hours, menu, today’s specials, and reservation or waitlist intent — so the front-of-house team can stay focused on the guests in the room. The groundwork is in place and the assistant is actively being developed; we present it here as work in progress, not a finished deliverable.
From audience strategy to shoot days, from concept ad films and black-slate photography to a production website and AI — Grand Malabar shows what Boxes and Tales does best: strategy, creative production, and technology under one roof, in an ongoing partnership that grows with the client.
